1978 - Greg Herbert, saxophone player for Blood, Sweat & Tears, died at the age of 30 from an accidental overdose in Amsterdam.

1979 - The Clash embarked on a major US tour, with supporting act Bo Diddley.

1984 - Boy George and Culture Club earned their biggest hit in England with their tune, “Karma Chameleon.” The song would be their only No. 1 hit in the US.

1998 - Jersey natives Jon Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen and Southside Johnny rocked the Come Together benefit concert, which raised money for the family of a slain Long Branch, NJ police officer.
